British Military Administration advances.
The sum of $72 under consideration has now been identified as the total of advances made to six Indian police officers shortly after the resumption of civil government. This amount was later recovered from the officers but, instead of being applied to reduce the advance account for advances of salary to police staff in the Hong Kong Government's books, it was erroneously credited to the B.M.A. advances recovered account. When this misallocation was discovered an adjusting transfer was made.
In paragraph 5 of my savingram 89 of 18th January 1950 I indicated that an adjustment of $72 was necessary to the then agreed figure of $989,713.86 payable by the Crown Agents to the War Office. This agreed figure was later revised by my savingram 285 of 8th March 1950 to $986,901.16 and the net amount actually paid by the Crown Agents was, eventually, $986,829.16.
The $72 in question was, therefore, an item in the Hong Kong Government's account which originally got
